Tusker seeks to keep momentum with Homeboyz away trip

Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina says the team is drawing great confidence from their recent run of positive results as they prepare to face Kakamega Homeboyz in a SportPesa League match on Sunday at the Bukhungu Stadium.

The Brewers have picked back-to-back victories and will be looking to extend that momentum when they line up against Homeboyz, one of the league’s in-form sides and current log leaders.

“We’ve had a good response from the players in the last two matches, and you can see the confidence slowly building. The group is more settled now, the energy is positive, and everyone understands the importance of consistency moving forward.”

Maina was quick to acknowledge the challenge posed by Kakamega Homeboyz, who have enjoyed a strong start to the season.

“Homeboyz are a very organized team and have started the season really well. We know it will be a tough game. We played them during pre-season and managed to win 2-0, but a league match is a completely different ball game. They’ve improved, and we have to be at our best to get a result.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Brian Opondo echoed his coach’s sentiments, revealing that the team’s turnaround began after a frank meeting among players following a difficult start to the campaign.

“After the tough start, we sat down as a group and talked openly about what needed to change. Since then, the mentality has been different, and you can see the results. Everyone is fighting for each other now,” he said.

Opondo, who recently received a call-up to the national team, also expressed his delight at the recognition.

“It’s always an honor to represent the country. The call-up gives me extra motivation to keep working hard, help the team, and maintain good form at the club level,” he added.

Tusker’s last away trip against Homeboyz, which was played at the Mumias Complex, ended in a 0-0 draw, the last match of last season. The most recent meeting between these two sides was a pre-season friendly, which Tusker won 2-0 with goals from Eric Kapaito and Cliff Oruko.
