Alex Onchwari is ecstatic after making his long-awaited debut for Tusker FC, nearly seven months after joining the club.
The central defender was handed a starting role in the match against KCB over the weekend, stepping in for the injured Tom Teka. Onchwari delivered a solid performance, playing a key part in securing the team’s sixth clean sheet of the season.
Speaking after the match, Onchwari expressed his joy and gratitude.
“I’m incredibly thankful to have finally been given this chance to play. I’m grateful to the technical bench for believing in me and giving me the opportunity. I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long, and it’s finally here. I’ll keep working hard to make sure I stay in the team,” Onchwari said.
He believes that his patience has paid off, and the 90 minutes played, along with the clean sheet, will serve as additional motivation to continue improving.
“I always knew my chance would come eventually, and I never gave up, even when I wasn’t getting minutes. I stayed patient and never had any regrets. I kept working hard and staying ready for whenever I was needed,” he shared.
Onchwari continued, “Playing 90 minutes and contributing to a clean sheet—something that is so important for defenders—is a huge motivation for me to keep pushing forward.”
Reflecting on the significance of his debut, Onchwari added, “This is huge for me. February is my birthday month, and at the start of the month, I prayed for it to be a great one. And what better way to kick it off than with my first match for Tusker FC?”
