Preview: Tusker FC takes on Posta Rangers in league duel

Tusker FC will switch attention back to the FKF Premier League, putting behind last weekend’s disappointment in the Cup against Nairobi United. The Brewers look to bounce back to winning ways against Posta Rangers, with the game penciled for the Dandora Stadiumn.

Tusker has faced a tough spell since the start of the new year, with draws against leaders Police FC, Gor Mahia, Shabana FC, KCB and Bandari FC, but the team looks to power it’s first three points since the 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars at the same venue.

A win for Tusker will push the team top of the table, as only a point separates them and leaders Police.

Head to head record:

Over the last 24 meetings between these two sides, Tusker has the upper hand with 11 wins and eight draws. The brewers have lost only five times against the mailmen, the last being a 1-0 defeat in January 2022.

The first leg meeting between these two sides ended in a 3-1 victory in Machakos, Ryan Wesley Ogam, Tom Teka and skipper Charles Momanyi scoring the goals in a come-from-behind performance.

Last season, Tusker collected four points from Posta with a win and a draw.

Tusker has scored 33 goals in the last 24 meetings with Posta, and conceded only 19. Of the 11 victories against the mailmen, four have been at home while seven have come away from home.

Opposition watch:

This season, Posta have had a slow start, but are experiencing a renaissance under former Tusker FC player and coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo. They have won two and drawn two of their last four and are placed 13th in the standings with 25 points.

They have won six games, drawn seven and lost 10 this season.

Apart from Omollo, Posta is also home for another Tusker old-boy, forward Shami Kibwana.

Team news:

Ahead of the game, the team has been boosted with the return of defender Mike Kibwage who has been out for two and a half months with a groin problem.

The team will still be without striker Ryan Ogam who is nursing a knee injury while winger Thomas Omolle also remains out but is recovering from a hairline ankle fracture, and has already started his rehabilitation.

Pre-match comments:

Midfielder Chris Erambo offered his pre-match thoughts ahead of the crucial game.

“This will be a very tough match because they are a team fighting to move out of the relegation zones and they will come in strong. They are also not an easy opponent and it has always been competitive between us,” Erambo says.

He adds; “However, we want to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment with a win and it will be good as well if we go top of the table before the international break. We have worked and improved on our finishing which has been a main undoing and hopefully we get the much needed three points.”

The match kicks off at 4pm, and will be live on Azam Sports 3.
