Second half blitz sees Tusker edge out KCB

Second half goals from Chris Erambo and John Njuguna saw Tusker FC pick a 2-0 victory over KCB at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to storm to third spot in the FKF Premier League on Sunday.

The victory sees Tusker complete a home and away sweep over the bankers and reduces the gap with leaders Gor Mahia to 10 points.

The first half was cagy and tightly contested with chances few and far in between. However, at the stroke of halftime, David Odoyon worked the keeper with a brilliant shot on the volley when a long throw from Boniface Onyango landed on his path. He fed from the rebound, but once again his shot was blocked by a forest of legs inside the box.

In the second half, coach Robert Matano made changes, Collins ‘Kante’ Otieno coming on for the injured Odoyo while Joseph Mwangi and Njuguna came on for Shaphan Oyugi and Michael Oduor.

The changes sparked a change of pace with the fresh legs injecting much needed tempo upfront. Erambo then broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, a fantastic bouncing header from Njuguna’s corner landing in the far post for his second goal of the season.

The goal gave Tusker some much needed confidence and they attacked more though KCB defended deep.

However, 10 minutes to time the brewers doubled the lead in fantastic fashion. Njuguna, who also scored in the first leg 5-0 victory over the bankers scored a brilliant goal, controlling the ball with his thigh and firing a brilliant volley past the keeper from 25 yards out.

With a 2-0 cushion, the boys p;ayed with more comfort and panache toguard the victory and clean sheet.
