Tusker FC will have one final opportunity to cap off their season with silverware when they face Kenya Police FC in the FKF MozzartBet Cup final at the Kwale Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Brewers head into the contest seeking their first domestic Cup title in 10 years and a fourth in the club’s illustrious history. Victory would not only deliver a major trophy but also secure qualification to next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Standing in their way, however, is a Kenya Police FC side that has proven a difficult opponent this season. Sunday’s encounter will be the third meeting between the two teams in the current campaign, with the law enforcers emerging victorious in both previous league encounters.
Police claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg played in Murang’a before completing a league double with a narrow 1-0 win at the Police Sacco Stadium.
Despite that record, Tusker head coach Julien Mette believes his side is ready for the challenge and understands the magnitude of the occasion.
“It will not be an easy game. Finals are very tough and we are playing against a very well-organized team. It is not easy to score against them as we have seen in their last few matches, but we are going in to give our best,” Mette said ahead of the match.
The French tactician has overseen a remarkable Cup run since taking charge midway through the season and believes the final offers the perfect opportunity for the team to end a difficult campaign on a positive note.
“We have the hunger to win this. We know that we have had a difficult season, but this will be the perfect way to ensure that we bring a smile on our faces,” he added.
The Brewers have shown resilience throughout their Cup journey, navigating a series of difficult encounters to reach the final and placing themselves within touching distance of silverware.
Assistant captain Tom Teka echoed his coach’s sentiments, insisting the players are approaching the final with confidence and focus.
“We are under no pressure. We know what we are supposed to do and we are ready. We have prepared well for the game and everyone is focused,” Teka said.
The experienced midfielder expects a closely contested affair between two evenly matched teams and believes success will come down to fine margins.
“They are a good team and this final will be decided by the smallest details and who wants it the most. For us, we really want it,” he added.
With a trophy, continental qualification and a chance to end a decade-long wait for Cup glory at stake, all ingredients are in place for an enthralling final in Kwale.
