Tusker FC picks second successive victory

A goal in either half from Shaphan Siwa and Ryan Ogam saw Tusker pick back to back wins for the first time this season, with a 2-1 victory over Mara Sugar FC at the Dandora Stadium. Meshack Karani scored for Mara, but the brewers held on for three points and a fourth victory of the season.

The margin of victory could have been bigger on the balance of chances created, but the boys would be proud of the performance they put up to earn victory that pushes the team to fourth in the standings after nine matches.

Siwa broke the deadlock with his first goal of the season in spectacular fashion after just 11 seconds. The midfielder, who has been dishing out assists for fun thumped home from the edge of the box after being teed up by Ogam.

But, the visitors pulled one back just six minutes later when Karani poked the ball home from close range. Nonetheless, the Brewers kept the pressure and had more scoring chances with James Kibande hitting the side netting and Siwa being denied by the post after a touch at the near post off a low cross.

Chris Erambo, Naaman Balecho and George Kaddu also had efforts from distance miss the target by inches.

In the second half, the boys started with as much pace as they did in the opening half and just three minutes after the restart, Ogam doubled the tally with his seventh goal of the season, picking up Balecho’s pass before a run into the box saw him snap a low shot that beat the keeper.

He should have made it 3-1 almost immediately when he ran through on goal, but his shot with the weaker right foot was saved by the keeper. The boys had two more clear scoring chances, Siwa and substitute Jacob Onyango both denied by the keeper.

The boys now switch their attention to the next duel against Murang’a Seal on Sunday away from home.
