Tusker FC has progressed to the second round of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) MozzartBet Cup, after a 2-1 win over Gucha Youth in the round of 64 in Kisii on Saturday afternoon.
First half goals from John Njuguna and Ryan Wesley Ogam gave the team victory, in a match whose score-line would have been bigger by the magnitude of chances missed.
A comfortable start saw Njuguna break the deadlock after just 10 minutes, curling the ball into the far post after a brilliant cross-field ball from George Kaddu on the other wing.
The goals could have been more with Jacob Onyango and Ogam both failing to finish good scoring chances, with Njuguna coming close again with a rasping left footer that skied inches over the bar.
With less than 10 minutes to the break, Ogam got his goal, connecting to a Kaddu cross with a header from close range.

In the second half, coach Charles Okere made changes, Ogam and Onyango being rested with Deogratious Ojok and Eric Balecho coming on.
The two brought in some new punch in attack, with Balecho seeing a well struck shot deflected behind for a corner, which skipper Charles Momanyi headed inches wide.
Ojok also had a shot blocked while later, the Gucha keeper made a great double save to deny Balecho while David Odoyo’s final effort rolled inches off target.
Momanyi again had a chance from a Kaddu long throw, but he bounced his header just wide.
Gucha pulled one back in what was their only effort at goal from the penalty spot, after Momanyi had fouled inside the box.
The team now switches attention to the league with a home tie against Shabana FC this Wednesday in Machakos.
