Tusker FC Goalkeeper Coach Duncan Ochieng in Sweden for learning experience

Tusker FC’s goalkeeper coach Duncan Ochieng is in Sweden on the invite of  top-flight side Ostersunds FK for a unique professional development opportunity.

During his visit, Ochieng is shadowing the club’s first-team coaching staff, gaining first-hand insight into the day-to-day operations of managing a professional football team in Europe. His schedule includes observing training sessions, learning about tactical preparation, player management, and other key aspects of top-level coaching.

Ochieng, who has been instrumental in mentoring Tusker’s goalkeepers, will also have the chance to watch two of Ostersunds’ Allsvenskan league matches. This will allow him to experience Sweden’s top-tier football atmosphere and analyze high-level match play in real time.

The visit has been facilitated by former Kenyan international Arnold Origi, who currently serves as the goalkeeper trainer at Ostersunds. Ochieng and Origi share a rich football history, having been teammates at Mathare United during their playing days.

Speaking on the trip, Ochieng expressed excitement at the opportunity, noting that the experience will not only enhance his personal coaching skills but also benefit Tusker FC in the long term.

“This is a great chance to learn from a club that has competed at the highest level, including European competitions,” Ochieng said. “I’m looking forward to bringing back new ideas and approaches that will help us continue improving at Tusker.”

Sharing an update from Sweden, Ochieng added:

“The experience so far has been eye-opening. The level of detail in training, the use of technology, and the professional approach to every aspect of the game is something I truly admire. I’ve already picked up lessons that I believe will make a big difference back home.”

On what he intends to implement at Tusker upon his return, Ochieng noted:

“I’ve seen innovative training methods, especially for goalkeepers, and a structured approach to player conditioning. Bringing these back will help us raise our training intensity, improve technical efficiency, and ensure our players are even better prepared for competition. We have not won a title in the last three seasons and as a coaching team, we have to do everything to ensure we improve in all departments. This is one way of ensuring that we have a better last line of defence next season,” noted the former Kenyan international.

Tusker FC CEO, Sam Nzau lauded the opportunity, saying it reflects the club’s vision to embrace global best practices.

“We are proud to see our coaches gaining international exposure. Duncan’s visit to Ostersunds is a great step towards improving our technical standards, and we are confident the knowledge he gains will trickle down to the entire team. What he learns there will not only be beneficial to the goalkeepers, but the entire technical team as well. The knowledge he will gather there is immense and will be beneficial to all of us,” Nzau said.

Ochieng is expected back home on August 20th.
