Goals in either half from Bless Bakai and Stephen Etyang saw Tusker FC beat Bidco United 2-0 at the Police Sacco Stadium on Friday evening and storm into the Round of 16 of the MozzartBet FKF Cup.
The victory ensured the Brewers remain in contention for a title this season, and concludes a brilliant week of three wins in seven days.
The boys had a brilliant start to the game with Eric Kapaito stinging the keeper’s gloves with a brilliant strike just inside the opening two minutes.
Etyang almost scored from a corner later but the keeper managed to tip the ball over for another setpiece. From the resultant situation, Etyang started the ball short to Dennis Iguma who lofted a cross into the box, but Thomas Omolle’s header flew just wide.
Etyang attempted an effort on the half hour mark drifting in from the left, but his shot went over. The goal finally came eight minutes to the break.
Eric Kapaito’s quick movement inside the box saw him win the ball and clip for Bakai, the latter finishing off brilliantly to cap his first start with a goal.
In the second half, the boys began with the same pace. Just five minutes in, it was 2-0. A well worked team move saw Kapaito release Omolle out on the right, the winger slapping a first time cross into the box which was finished off by Etyang.
With a 2-0 deficit to chase, Bidco expectedly upped the tempo and had two close chances, the first from point blank range attracting a brilliant save from Brandon Obiero while the second was blocked a yard off the line by Francis Oduor.
Despite the pressure, the boys maintained their cool with the central pairing of skipper Charles Momanyi and Oduor doing well to cut out all long balls dumped in the area.
It could have been three towards the end when substitute Ian Simiyu ran onto an Ibrahim Joshua cross but he couldn’t beat the keeper with an outstretched leg.
Oalo also had a chance from close range but a forest of legs dashed in to block his goalbound shot.
