The Tusker Youth team bounced back to winning ways in the FKF Division II League after a well deserved 2-0 win over Eastleigh Youth at the Ruaraka Complex on Saturday evening.
Shelton Asanyo was the toast of the side with a goal and assist in the second half, as the boys rose to second in the standings, pending Sunday’s matches.
The team could have won by an even bigger margin by the virtue of chances created especially in the first half, but the team will take the three points especially after picking a point in the last two games.
“It is encouraging to get to winning ways especially after the last two games where we felt we performed below what we are capable of. We had so many chances in this game which we should have utilized but all in all, I am happy for the boys to have picked that win,” head coach Peter Kariuki said after the game.

He added;
“It more or less breaks a psychological wall that was there because sometimes for young players when you have a winless run, it tends to harm them more mentally. We are back on track and this result will boost us to go on a consecutive run of wins.”
The team should have scored in the first half, with Nestroy Otieno seeing his shot blocked while Joshua Ngari, whose pace on the wing proved a handful for the Eastleigh backline also had some chances go begging.
The impressive Ken Kanyiri, who is slowly returning to full fitness after enduring a torrid year with injury was in his usual flamboyant best. The forward was a thorn in the final third and his best chance saw the keeper pull a top drawer save to deny his volley from the edge of the area.

In the second half though, the team came back more clinical and just minutes in, Asanyo broke the deadlock with a neat tap in from an Elly Oduor cross.
Asanyo would turn provider midway through the second half when he beat his markers plus the keeper, before placing the ball on a plate for substitute Kimani to finish calmly.
The team retains its ambition of chasing promotion into the Division One league, and coach Kariuki firmly believes his boys have what it takes.
