Coach Charles Okere speaks on Saturday’s match against Nairobi City Stars

Tusker FC interim coach Charles Okere says the team is ready to bounce back to winning ways ahead of the FKF Premier League resumption on Saturday, with a fixture against Nairobi City Stars at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Okere says he is impressed with the morale and motivation the team has shown in training and believes they are psychologically ready to battle for maximum points.

“We have had almost three weeks of preparation and they have been interesting for us. We have had a series of friendly matches to see the areas which we need to improve from our last game. We have capitalized on that time to improve and strengthen,” coach Okere said, speaking after the team’s final training session.

The team has been on break since the match against KCB on October 26. Coach Okere believes this time has notonly been beneficial to work on tactical and technical areas, but also give players who have been injured time to recover.

“It has been positive because Kibwage (Mike) and Oguta (Dennis) have recovered and are training well with the rest of the players. Chris (Erambo) who also had a slight ankle problem has also managed to come back and has trained very well this last week. However, it is unfortunate we will not have Odoyo (David) and Luvanda (Lawrence) (groin and hamstring). Odoyo has however shown some bit of positive progress and is training lightly with the team so we might have them in the next few days,” the coach revealed.

On what the team has improved in training, the coach said; “We had lapses in conceding goals and we have tried to address that. It is a good thing that we are also scoring a lotbut the concern is that we are leaking at the back so we have tried to work on that and find some balance between defense and offense.”

On facing City Stars; “They have had a good run of results with two back to back wins which is motivating. They will definitely come in strong. But we are equally motivated because we want to come back to winning ways and make a good response. We are psychologically prepared to face them.”
