Tusker FC’s fightback wasn’t enough Saturday afternoon, as the team fell to a 3-2 defeat to FKF Premier League leaders KCB at the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a.
A Francis Kahiro double within the first 13 minutes had set the team back, but they mounted a response with Ryan Ogam scoring just before the break.
However, Charles Momanyi deflected a cross into his own net midway through the second half and Ogam’s second from the penalty spot couldn’t complete the comeback.
It wasn’t the most ideal of starts from the Brewers as Kahiro broke the deadlock just after five minutes when he swept home a cross from Kevin Okumu on the right. The same pair would combine, this time off a counter attack, again Okumu providing the cross for Kahiro to finish.
But the boys mounted a positive response and played with more purpose and authority. Ogam halved the deficit a few minutes to halftime when he swept the ball home from inside the box after Momanyi nodded down Mike Oduor’s corner.
In the second half, the team started on a positive note and it should have been level just two minutes in but Ogam’s header from George Kaddu’s long throw rose marginally over. Minutes later, the KCB keeper made a massive full stretch save to parry David Odoyo’s long range shot behind for a corner.
Tusker’s fightback was punctured again from a crossball, this time skipper Momanyi’s attempted clearance falling into his own net. Despite the huge setback especially coming at a time when an equalizer was imminent, the boys gave in a fight.
Ogam added his second at the stroke of 90 minutes for his fifth of the season when he converted from the penalty spot after he was appended inside the box.
