Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina says he is impressed with the competition and performance of each player in training, saying it is very crucial in terms of getting the team results in the business end of the season.
Speaking after Wednesday’s friendly match against Kahawa United, the coach said everyone has shown they are up to the task and hungry for a chance. Wednesday’s friendly involved mostly players who did not clock 90 minutes in last weekend’s win over Bidco United in Machakos.
“It was really impressive what they showed and how they performed in the game. At this point of the season it is important to ensure that all players are on the same level in terms of fitness and tactical understanding of how we want to play. For this friendly, we needed to have those who need minutes to pick some and everyone has shown they are ready,” coach Maina said.

Against Kahawa, Deo Ojok, who scored the winner off the bench against Bidco scored the opener, with Luke Namanda netting the second. Defender Yussuf Mainge and Boban Zirintusa scored second half goals to seal the 4-1 win. Kahawa’s lone goal was scored by Daniel Waweru from the penalty spot.
“I was very impressed with everyone’s performance. We played well in terms of combination play and opening spaces in defense leading to the four goals we scored. It was also great to see we could score from different scenarios be it on setpieces, combination play or individual brilliance,” coach Maina said.
The friendly match also saw the involvement of two Youth Team players, defender Antony Okoth and winger Douglas Omanga.
“Their performance was really impressive and they have shown that if needed, they are ready to step up. It aligns very well with our vision, to use the Youth Team as our breeding ground for future stars. We will be looking to incorporate more Youth Team players in the first team to give them exposure and a chance to show what they can do,” added the coach.
The team is preparing to face Mara Sugar on Sunday afternoon, away in Awendo.
