Dok Patiently Awaits Senior Team Debut

Tusker FC youngster Teddy Dok is eagerly awaiting the chance to make his debut for the senior team and is ready to step up whenever called upon.

The 20-year-old midfielder was promoted from the Youth Team at the beginning of the season but is yet to make his competitive debut, though he has been included in the matchday squad once.

“I’m patiently waiting for my opportunity,” Dok says. “I know it will come, and I’ve been working hard to be ready. My focus is on staying in the best shape while I wait for that moment.”

He draws inspiration from teammate Edwin Simiyu, who also made the leap from the Youth Team. “What motivates me is Edu,” Dok continues. “He was promoted and didn’t play for a while, but when his chance came, he took it and played really well. I know my time will come too, and when it does, I’ll be ready.”

Transition hasn’t been easy

Dok admits that the transition from the Youth Team to the senior squad hasn’t been easy. The change in pace and physicality was challenging at first, but the midfielder quickly adapted after training with the first-team players.

“I was already familiar with the environment because we interacted with senior players even when I was with the Youth Team. The adaptation wasn’t that difficult, though it was challenging at the start. But now, I feel like I’m on a different level,” he explains.

Looking back, Dok reflects on his journey: “I always knew that one day I would play for the senior team. Even when I was in the Youth Team, I believed in myself and worked hard for that goal. What surprised me was how quickly the promotion came. I didn’t expect it so soon, but I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

Senior midfielders helping him improve

He credits the senior midfielders for helping him improve his game. “I really appreciate their guidance. They correct me and show me how I can improve, and I’ve learned so much from them and the coaches. It’s helped me become a better player.”

Having joined Tusker’s Youth Team from Mathare Flames, Dok offers advice to other aspiring players: “Keep working hard and be patient. Your opportunity might not come in the first or second year, but as long as you keep proving yourself, it will come.”
