It’s an opportunity to learn: Balecho reacts on his national team call up

Forward Eric Balecho says he is chuffed at his national team call up ahead of the next round of international fixtures, and says this is a great opportunity for him to learn from other and improve on his own game.

Balecho has been called up to the national team for the second time, having earned a maiden call up in 2023, during the opening round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“I feel great to have been called up to the national team and I am thankful because it is a great opportunity. It shows that the work we put in is being seen and also an encouragement to keep working,” said Balecho.

He adds; “This is also an opportunity to learn because there will be quality players from other teams locally as well as Europe based players and there is one or two things we can learn from each other. I need to go there with a learning mindset and also to keep pushing and working.”

Balecho had a slow start after joining Tusker at the start of the season from Murang’a Seal, but has been on a steady rise and managed to score his first goal in a 1-1 draw with Shabana FC two weeks ago. He says he has been taking lessons in stride, and feels he will improve even more.

“Most of the lessons I have picked are around finishing, just trying to create spaces and chances around the 18 area and also to try score more,” says the forward.
