More to come: Simiyu elated after maiden Tusker FC goal

Ian Simiyu says his first goal in Tusker colors is a massive encouragement to keep putting in the work, and he believes it is just the start of a flurry of goals in the yellow and black.

The forward joined the Brewers midway through last season from second tier side Nzoia Sugar, where he was the top scorer, but took a while to get his footing.

Simiyu has however unlocked what promises to be a streak, after coming off the bench to score a 77th minute leveller in a 1-1 draw against Shabana FC at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday evening.

“I am really delighted because I have been praying and working so hard for this moment and I am delighted it has come. Even when I was coming on, I had the belief that I could do something to help the team. I believe this is the start of better. This is one of many more goals and assists to come,” Simiyu said after the game.

He believes the point will be massive to push the team’s confidence, especially after a difficult start to the campaign.

Just less than five minutes after coming on, Simiyu banged in the equalizer, pickpocketing Mark Okolla of the ball before slotting well past the keeper. It was agoal long coming, with Tusker having camped in Shabana’s half.

The introduction of Thomas Omolle out wide had brought the Brewers back to life, with Austin Odongo having pounced on a rebound from close range to give Shabana a 19th minute lead.

Tusker had some good chances in the second half with Issa Lumumba and Dennis Iguma both having shots fly out wide, while Omolle had two precise deliveries low into the box roll across the face of goal begging for a touch.
