Chris Erambo struck in the 61st minute as Tusker FC started off the 2024/25 FKF Premier League campaign with a well-worked 1-0 win over Sofapaka at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday evening.
In a closely contested encounter, Erambo’s goal proved the difference as the Brewers got off to a flier, coach Charles Okere earning his first win at the helm.
Erambo volleyed the ball home from inside the box after George Kaddu’s effort from the backpost was deflected kindly into his path.
Tusker had created a myriad of scoring chances especially in the first half, which went begging. Shaphan Oyugi had two close opportunities, first volleying wide on his weaker left foot while the second, a more open chance, saw him shoot the ball straight to the keeper.
New boy Eric Balecho who put in a shift on the wings also had a chance when he cut in from the right, but his curling effort took a deflection to take the sting off it and the keeper gathered easily.
Save for a few nervous moments, the Tusker backline was calm and solid throughout the opening half. In the second period, Tusker started strong and pinned Sofapaka in their own half, Erambo scoring the opener after 16 minutes.
Sofapaka pulled strings to try and rally back, with debutant keeper Joseph Ochuka making a clean save from a long distance shot.
Tusker managed to guard the victory for three points, a clean sheet and a positive start to the campaign.
