Ryan Ogam struck a sensational double, including a 93rd minute winner, as Tusker FC picked a crucial 2-1 win over Gor Mahia FC in an FKF Premier League fixture at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Austine Odhiambo’s sublime freekick had drawn Gor level after Ogam’s opener, but the league top scorer had the last laugh, two minutes to time to take his tally for the season to 15.
The victory lifts Tusker to 33 points and top of the league standings, five ahead of second placed KCB who have played a match less.
A tough and closely contested opening half didn’t open up for many chances, though Rodgers Ouma and Lawrence Juma both tested keeper Brian Opondo from a distance, with the Tusker custodian remaining hawk-eyed.
Ogam also had half a chance, when he picked a through ball off Dennis Wanjala, but his eventual shot was deflected takeing its sting off.
In the second halfm the boys started on a high and just five minutes in, were 1-0 up. Dennis Oguta, who had just been introduced for Fabian Adikiny picked the ball in midfield and sent Ogam through, the striker doing neatly to beat the keeper and tap into an empty net.
Gor however drew level in the 68th minute, Odhiambo curling a sensational freekick into the top right corner of Opondo’s goal.
But Tusker kept the fight, and were rewarded late in the game. Wanjala swung a beautiful delivery off a freekick finding Ogam’s run at the backpost, the latter guding the ball home with the inside of his boot.
