Polepole stars as Tusker FC bounce back to winning ways

David Polepole put up a starring performance with a goal and an assist, as Tusker FC bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Posta Rangers at the Dandora Stadium on Friday evening.

Polepole, the Youth Team assistant captain, has been called up to the senior team to add on to offensive options and on his very first start in the league, played a pivotal role as the team put off a five-match winless streak.

The 22-year-old made his debut coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw against Shabana FC in Machakos last month, and also had an off-the bench appearance against Bandari FC in Mombasa.

Performances in both games saw him earn his very first start in last weekend’s Cup match against Nairobi United and was then duly rewarded with a first league start against Posta.

And he made his start memorable, linking up with his erstwhile Youth Team partner Teddy Dok, also earning a first ever league start. He played the midfielder through on goal, the latter controlling with his chest before firing past the keeper in the 25th minute.

Five minutes later he was on the scoresheet, picking up Eric Balecho’s ball inside the box before rifling a low shot that beat the keeper to make it 2-0 after just half an hour.

Tusker was rewarded for a positive start, and should have had more goals by halftime, with David Odoyo seeing two of his well taken shots go agonizingly wide, while Balecho also had an effort saved by the keeper at full stretch.

In the second half, Posta came back with increased pressure to find a way back. They did so in the 65th minute when Felix Oluoch headed into the net at the near post off a corner.

Despite pressure, the boys did well to contain the situation and even had more chances to score. Polepole saw a shot from the edge of the area saved by the keeper while substitute Dennis Oguma had a low shot slide just inches wide off a cutback from Chris Erambo.

The victory sees the team move top of the table with 44 points after 24 matches.
