New boy Ryan Ogam scored a sensational first half goal as Tusker FC edged out Soltilo Bright Stars 1-0 on Tuesday evening in the first of three international friendly matches in Kampala, Uganda.
Ogam who had just come on for Deogratious Ojok after half an hour scored with a beautiful effort from almost 40 yards out. Lawrence Luvanda had won possession close to the halfway line and poked the 19-year old through. The latter sighted the keeper a few metres off his line and went for a sensational strike which bounced into the net.
It proved to be the winning goal in a match which the technical bench used all players in rotation, to ensure match fitness.
There were some chances before that, with David Odoyo and Chris Erambo both having shots go wide from distance. Close to the break, Jihn Njuguna, who had come in with Ogam after half an hour worked the keeper to a great save when he curled the ball brilliantly from the edge of the area.
In the second half, the coaches changed the entire team, with a new set of 11 coming in. They had some chances as well, with Joseph Mwangi having two shots at goal but both went wide.
The team will play its second match against Kitara FC in Hoima on Thursday.
