Coach Charles Okere previews Sunday’s match against Police FC

Coach Charles Okere has said his team needs to be astute both defensively and offensively, ahead of match day four of the FKF Premier League 2024-25 season against Police FC at the Police Sacco Stadium in South C.

The tactician spoke of the team’s preparations, as well as the target heading to the game.

On what the team has worked on this week:

We have done a lot of work to correct on some areas that we did not do well in our last match against Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend. We conceded twice and so we have done some work on our defensive shape as well as team organization. We moved from a loss to a point so at least, we can say there are a few positives as well.

On Conceding five goals in three matches:

We can score five goals, but we have conceded the same number. It means that the strikers are working and now, that puts the spotlight on how we defend as a team because defending starts from up top. We cannot blame the defense but we take the blame as a team. It is a worrying trend especially because we concede goals from a winning position. We need to have the character to defend our leads.

On the team sustaining the pressure and keeping calm:

There is always pressure in football. Even when you are winning, there is always pressure to maintain. Yes, there is pressure but we are working together as a technical bench and the players as well to try and correct the mistakes. We have had some disappointing results in the last two matches, but I believe we have addressed what we thought was not working.

On facing Police FC and the threat they pose:

First of all, I would like to say congratulations to Police FC for representing us in the Continental matches. Those are high caliber games and they did their best. They are a big team with experienced players, but we are a big team too. Ninety minutes will decide but we have to approach the match very keenly.
