Tusker FC’s latest acquisition, midfielder Dennis Oguta, 20, has vowed to put in 100 percent to ensure he adds value to the squad, and also progresses his own career.
Oguta joined the team in mid-season, from FKF Division Two side Harvest of Hope, a club he played in for a short period of time, after being scouted from Teens of Hope, in Busia County.
“When I was in school, my coach always encouraged me to work hard, train well and doors will open for me. I am delighted to be here at Tusker because this is a big club. I am happy to get this chance and I will give 100 percent. It is a good opportunity and one that I really need in my career,” Oguta said, in his first interview with the club.
He says he has been welcomed well by the team for the past month and a half he has been training at Ruaraka, and believes the perfect hospitality accorded by his new teammates has helped him settle in quicker.
“My teammates have not put me under pressure. I have trained well and they have welcomed me really well. Everyone has been helping me with advice and encouraging me. The coach has also done well to help me settle in and his coaching is also great. Looking at myself now and compared to when I came, I have really improved and there is progress.
His challenge, now, he says, is finding a way into the team, with competition stiff. He has to fight for a regular starting place with Chris Erambo, David Odoyo and Collins Otieno, but he believes he has what it takes to rake in some minutes in the remaining 10 matches of the season.
“I am new and still learning so of course it will not be easy to directly get into the team, but soon I will be there. I am fighting everyday in training to get to that level that the rest are in. Seeing how I am training and the progress I am making, I know I will be there.”
“I have to push myself to work hard especially looking at where I am coming from and the expectation from people at home. All eyes are on me and I don’t want to disappoint them. I have to show my capabilities,” added the midfielder.
With his transfer now ratified, Oguta will be available for selection in the remaining matches of the season, starting with the end-month FKF Cup game against Kakamega Homeboyz.
