Tusker picks point on the road against Bandari FC

Tusker FC picked a single point on the road, in a 0-0 draw against Bandari FC in Mombasa on Sunday evening.

It was once again a tale of scoring chances going begging, including an early disallowed goal as the team raked in a fifth consecutive draw.

A fast-paced start saw the team land the ball in the net in the third minute when new boy Ian Simiyu shot into an empty net after the bandari keeper had punched the ball right into his path as he blocked an attempted overhead kick from Deo Ojok. However, the referee whistled out the goal and gave a freekick.

The boys continued pushing and created more chances. Simiyu was once again at the end of a chance when some intricate change of passes at the edge of the box saw Daviod Odoyo tee up the new boy but his shot rose marginally over the bar.

In the 17th minute, Odoyo created another chance when he chested down a cross and laid for Fabian Adikiny, but the latter’s effort on the volley rose over the bar.

George Kaddu also had a go at goal with a well timed run from the left, but his eventual shot was collected by the keeper. The left back also had an effort from a long-range freekick which sailed wide.

In the second half, Bandari started with pace, and had some chances, but Brian Opondo did well twice to pluck the ball off the feet of substitute William Gitama.

The boys kept prodding as they sought the much needed goal. Eric Balecho and substitute David Polepole both had shots from the edge of the box blocked while Kaddu had another freekick also stopped by the wall.

Late on, the boys piled the pressure, with Luke Namanda who had come in for the final five minutes doing some good work on the right, but two of his crosses went begging.

The point now sees the team move to 41, same as leaders Kenya Police who have a match at hand. Focus now shifts to the FKF Cup round of 32 duel against Nairobi United this weekend.
