Youth Team determined to put off winless run

Tusker Youth head coach Charles Okere says the team is determined to put off a woeful run of five winless matches, when they resume their FKF Division Two League matches with a duel against Burhan FC on Saturday.

The team which had started the season on a brilliant footing has lost four and drawn one of their last five matches, and are currently sixth in the standings, seven points behind leaders Rware City.

“So far, the performance of this season has been average. We have not been consistent but still all is not lost. We need to bounce back and win as many matches as possible for us to achieve our season’s targets,” coach Okere said ahead of the game against Burhan.

He added; “We expect to resume on a high with our targets remaining the same; winning the league. We expect a tough match against Burhan but we are going all out to win. They (Burhan) have been getting good results in their last few matches and we need to show desire and hunger to win the match.”

The team has been on a league break for almost a month, but they have been keeping shape by playing friendly matches at Ruaraka.

The coach says the friendly games have been vital to keep the boys up to check and ensure they are match fit getting back into the league.

On Wednesday, they faced off with Ulinzi Stars Youth, a game they lost 4-2, conceding all four in the second half.

Coach Okere believes they have picked up vital lessons from that game which will be vital for them in the preparation to face Burhan.

“Most importantly, we should have the character to defend our lead. We had a very good first half but some mistakes at the back cost us in the game. Also, we need to take our chances and kill the game as soon as we can,” Okere said.

He adds; “I believe we have seen where we are as a team and the last two days of training, we have worked to improve where we were not doing well.”

The match will be played at 1pm, at the Camp Toyoyo Ground in Jericho.
