First half goals from Douglas Omanga and David Polepole secured Tusker Youth team a vital 2-1 win over Vapor Sports in a closely contested duel at the Ruaraka Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot 13 minutes to time to make for some nervy ending, but the boys ensured the points are well guarded with a disciplined defensive performance.
Charles Okere’s boys had a good start to the game, commanding possession and being patient in build up. They had the first effort at goal early on after just 18 minutes when Brian Kamau pulled a stinger from distance, but the keeper proved equal to the task with a good save.

But, in the 27th minute, he wasn’t as lucky as he picked the ball from the net. Omanga used his body well to shield the ball, set himself up with the first touch and rifled in an unstoppable shot from 25 yards out to beat the keeper.
The goal gave the boys more confidence and they played with better belief. They doubled the lead two minutes to the break, Polepole’s freekick from distance sneaking below the keeper’s stretched arms.
In the second half, with a two-goal cushion, the team built on. Dennis Okoth, the team’s top scorer with nine goals almost scored a worldie from distance when he struck on the turn, but the effort was turned behind for a corner.

Kamau also had another chance from range, but the keeper palmed it behind for a corner that wasn’t successful in creating danger.
In the 77th minute, Vapor got a penalty from a handball inside the box, Evans Ondimu converting. That goal gave them confidence but the boys defended the lead to ensure they earned three points to push up in the Division Two League standings.
